Overview

A grounding hands on  studio based course that will take you into an expressive drawing world. The course will be taught by Louise Thomas and the style is structured and yet vital and empowering for you to realise your own potential. Finding a bridge between drawing and painting…

This exciting new course guides students to learn how to convey a sense of the weight, depth and volume of the body and objects through techniques that utilize a broad range of drawing materials besides charcoal. Some more experimental techniques will include working on a large format and drawing with long sticks to help students work more freely. We will be looking at aspects of the figure in an engaging way so that you can create more convincing images of your subject; while the poses that you will work from range from traditional standing and seated poses through to more energised and thrilling examples such as learning to capture the figure in motion. There will also be 3 classes with a dramatic still life in the studio to work from over several hours. There will be plenty of group critiques to get the most out of your progress and development.

The class will be held every Thursday for 8 weeks in the studio. Louise also teaches at the Newlyn School of Art and is familiar with all the potential excitement, fears and expectations you might have on attending a two month drawing course. The course is limited to 4 participants so the maximum attention can be given to each student. There will be homework exercises based on the themes of the class to be completed and discussed at the beginning of the following class. The course ends with a curated exhibition of artworks at a local gallery and/or an online auction.
